History

The Clearing Association of Bankers (CAB) was established in 2008, following the introduction of the Cheque Imaging & Truncation System (CITS) by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The Association was formed with the dual purpose of enhancing the knowledge of bankers and fostering goodwill, understanding, and fellowship among professionals engaged in clearing operations. Over the past decade, CAB has undertaken numerous initiatives and projects, playing an active role in the advancement of clearing and payment systems. In its relatively short history, the Association has made a significant contribution to the development and modernization of the banking industry in Sri Lanka.

To enhance the standards of clearing and payments in Sri Lanka by fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development among bankers.

Vision

To be the leading association in Sri Lanka dedicated to promoting efficiency, consistency, and innovation in clearing and payment systems.

Objectives

  • Acquire cutting-edge
  • Clearing technology for member banks.
  • Facilitate exchange of views on matters related to clearing and central operations.
  • Promote consistency in clearing practices.
  • Conduct educational activities (lectures, seminars, workshops).
  • Publish newsletters and journals on clearing.
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities such as LankaClear, Central Bank of Sri Lanka,and Sri Lanka Bankers’ Association.
  • Promote goodwill, understanding, and fellowship among clearing bankers.
  • Oversee all payment systems falling under LankaClear’s scope.
